Wonder Woman: Part 3 of 6

Happy Birthday Wonder Woman! Even if your comic makes me despair, you’re still my favourite superhero.

The letter comes too late. Diana has already made her way to Gotham- the city squats in the shadow of a great mountain, between the rocks and the sea, a twilight, in-between world that she supposes must appeal to the creatures that have made it home. It is as if she enters the realm of Fen’Harel himself, and though she is the bravest of her sisters she cannot help but suppress a shudder as the shadows touch her skin. She had no idea it would be so large. Her enquiries seem to take her down every street and alley, her owl flying high above the city only to come back with the same answer. Nothing. No glimpse of green here- no familiar face, only the whispers of the shadows as she steps through them in search of truth. They are two days in Gotham before Io returns with the Bat-Man’s reply clutched in her claws.Fear fights with hope as Diana unfolds it. To find her sister here would be a return to green trees and sunlight, to the comfortable, dusty smell of the camp, and to the familiar ways of her gods. However, Diana is not sure that she wants to see what such a city would do to one of her people. The Bat-Man’s reply is strange indeed, and Diana strokes Io’s feathers as she thinks. How lonely this knight must be, to have no clan and no familiar save the shadows. She has met many kinds of men on her search, but this Bat-Man seems entirely new- entirely alone. For a moment, she thinks of something other than her lost sister. Then Diana moves on, for truth, it seems, has no place among the shadows of this city.

They are two days in Gotham before Io returns with the Bat-Man’s reply clutched in her claws.

Fear fights with hope as Diana unfolds it.

All right, so Ben Caldwell’s Wonder Woman pitch got attention back when I was on the way to Afghanistan so I never got a chance to comment on it (even to note it has lovely art), but tonight I’m thinking about Wonder Woman, DC current direction for her, fans and such. A postcard campaign…

Guess whose birthday it is today!

dcwomenkickingass:

She’s a DC woman.

She kicks-ass.

She’s one of my favorites.

Shiny sky blue? Turns out not to be her color.

Happy Birthday, Wonder Woman. I know it’s a little stupid to have your main source of inspiration be a comic book character, but when I psyche myself up to be the best, the strongest, the bravest I can be, I always think of Diana of Themyscira.

Every woman a Wonder Woman
