20. Does this character have an obsession? Name it.
You could say Varric’s obsessed with Bianca, but everyone who knows Varric (really knows him) knows that Bianca is an elaborate deflection method, and if push came to shove he’d ditch her for the really important stuff. Maybe he’s obsessed with Hawke- he spends the better part of a year refining their story, after all- or maybe he’s just obsessed with storytelling? Varric refuses to be drawn on the matter. He isn’t obsessed. He just thinks very deeply.
34. Describe a recurring dream or nightmare this character might have.
He dreams of the mansion more frequently than he’d like. Varric visits that place a lot in the years that follow, his unconscious retracing the steps that led to Bartrand- and in the dream, it’s not always Bartrand either. Sometimes it’s Mother. Sometimes it’s Hawke. The mansion grows and twists, incorporating deep caves and high mountain paths. Varric can usually force himself to wake once he realises what’s going on, but sometimes he can’t and it just gets worse and worse.
44. What is this character hiding from him/herself?
Varric sometimes wonders if he didn’t have a hand in how terribly everything turned out in Kirkwall. The act of observing, and all that. If he hadn’t asked Hawke about that Deep Road expedition, would they have met Anders? Found the idol? Risen to become a Champion? It’s a thought that gets quickly dismissed, though. Varric only deals in maybes when he’s writing.
